Keras Mushroom Model

Deep Learning

This project was developed in my spare time during work, where I endeavored to learn more about the practical application of machine learning, as I had studied the subject numerous times at university but with alot of research focus.

I first started with finding an interesting dataset and settled on a "poisonous-or-not" mushroom dataset, where each entry would contain various physical properties of a particular mushroom, such as the number of gills or the colour of the cap.

This project is a binary classification machine learning model that determines whether a mushroom is edible or not. I used Python for all the code, and the Keras library to assist with implementing the machine learning model.

LÖVE Prototype Game

Game Development

I've always held an interest in games, and after learning some programming skills, I looked into how to create one from scratch. I looked at a variety of frameworks and engines and settled on LÖVE, a game dev framework written in Lua. I selected this for its low dependencies and code-heavy environment, where I felt most comfortable.

I formulated a quick summary of the game loop and style, a simple top-down fishing game. I created a working prototype of a box moving around, then incrementally added functionality. I created some simple assets in Asperite and used some of my own music. What you can see above is a snapshot of the working prototype, and is written entirely in code without external libraries.

Front-End Web Development

I developed this website, starting with a Bootstrap framework and adding several formatting and stylistic changes in HTML, CSS and some JavaScript functions. It wasn't a "from scratch" application, but the quote "Don't reinvent the wheel" says it best.

Interest

Interested in small form factor PCs, where my current rig uses a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU. I started building PCs in high-school and have found it enjoyable since. This is currently my 3rd build. I enjoy creating smaller programs and exploring different uses of software engineering, such as developing a Discord Bot, solving coding problems or attempting ethical hacking CTF challenges.

I also built my own keyboard, a 65% gasket-mount with Gateron Yellow linear switches and a 60% tray-mount also with Gateron Yellows. I learnt to solder repairing old retro consoles, and used my soldering skills to assemble the 2nd keyboard.

I play a few games, whether that be Mario on the Nintendo Switch, osu! on PC or retro games on a variety of handhelds. I do enjoy playing competitive games in a group setting, and have tried my hand at MOBA and FPS games (Sadly I'm not great!).
